No one knows who I am anymore. My hair represented so much of who I was that people walk pass me and don’t see me. It is crazy. Some think I’m a male, others just don’t know I am myself. Everyone loves the new look and some folks miss the locs but it was time for a change. Time to forgive and let go. That is what cutting my locs symbolized for me. I will grow them back one day but until then I will enjoy the short look. I will also embrace the struggle that comes with presenting more as a black boi. I will also fight against the injustice and anti transgender bias that is placed upon me because of these gender brackets created. All this will happen with putting myself and my love for God first.

So I have my new cut and everyone keep asking why I cut my hair and don’t I know it’s a more masculine cut… Ummm I cut my hair because my natural hair is not about growing a big Afro, it’s about healthy hair. Eventually I will let it grow but right now I am having fun with my hair and it being a masculine cut… Really? The line between what’s masculine and feminine been blurred long time ago plus I’m a lesbian… Which means I am just that cool 😉

The Los Angeles Transgender Film Festival is seeking films for our fifth annual film festival. Whether you’re dealing with gender-specific issues or not, we will be screening many diverse works made by trans, genderqueer, and intersex artists, including comedy, dramedy, drama, experimental, animation, and more! We also welcome work by allies who are showcasing trans or genderqueer themes in their work.

The LA Transgender Film Festival consists of an annual film festival, awards show, and international tour. We have traveled to UCLA, University of Texas Austin, CSU Long Beach, Culver City High School, Lifeworks queer youth program, and Pasadena City College, among many other venues. Apart from film screenings, we also have in store some tasty live performances and panel discussions with artists and activists.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship this week suspended fighter Nate Diaz after he called another fighter “the biggest fag in the world” on Twitter.

To make matters worse, his manager later said the slur wasn’t meant to target LGBT people, but was intended to “refer to a punk or a bitch.” Oh. That’s better.

“We are very disappointed by Nate Diaz’s comments, which are in no way reflective of our organization,” the UFC wrote in a widely circulated statement. “Nate is currently suspended pending internal investigation and we will provide further comment once the matter has been decided.”

USA Today noted that this year the UFC formally established rules prohibiting discriminatory comments.

Last month, UFC suspended heavyweight Matt Mitrione for calling transgender fighter Fallon Fox a “disgusting freak.” Several publications have pointed out, however, that Mitrione was signed for a fight less than three weeks later.

Come on, we were playing so nicely with the sporting world! Guess we’ve still got a long way to go.
